The Issue
Per- and Polyfluoroalkyl Substances or PFAS (often called “forever chemicals”) are a group of man-made substances used in industrial and consumer products for their stain-, water-, and heat-resistant properties. These chemicals can persist in the environment and may contaminate water supplies, soil, and surrounding property.
For nearly 60 years, the Chemours production facility in Dordrecht has discharged PFAS into the air, soil, and water. Environmental data paint a troubling picture of the contamination’s extent and severity.
Soil samples taken from private gardens in the vicinity of the plant contain PFAS concentrations that exceed health-based safety thresholds. Eggs from hobby chickens raised near the facility are so contaminated that the national food safety authority has advised residents not to consume them.
The PFAS Vrij Green Claim foundation is fed up with the damage PFAS contamination is causing to residents’ living environment — and demands that it stop. It also seeks fair compensation for residents for the impact PFAS contamination has had on their lives.

Blood tests of plant workers have revealed PFOA concentrations as high as 11,000 µg/L—more than 1,000 times above the current safety limit of 7 µg/L.
One of the employees in Dordrecht was found to have 11387 microgrammes per litre of PFOA in his blood.
The National Institute for Public Health and the Environment of the Netherlands (RVIM) reports that residents who live within 1 kilometer north east of Chemours ingest unsafe levels of PFAS through crops from kitchen gardens.
The Causes of Action
Loss of enjoyment of life. Residents suffer harm through fear and uncertainty about the damaging effects of PFAS contamination in their living environment on themselves and their loved ones.
Loss of enjoyment of their home and surroundings. Residents cannot enjoy their home and living environment free from worry because of PFAS contamination — yet continue to pay the full cost of their housing.
Soil contamination. Residents who own a garden have had soil contamination imposed on them by Chemours.
Water filter. Residents have higher levels of PFAS in their blood than others. It is therefore reasonable to install a water filter, so that at least no further PFAS is added through drinking water.
